How to Get Away With Murder is set to end after its sixth season wraps up in early 2020. And the mid-season finale, which aired in late November, ended with a bang. The series centers around law professor Annalise Keating and her five star students. Together, they become involved in a murder and, as the name of the series suggests, have to cover it up.

While the series focuses on their legal drama, attempts to thwart law enforcement, and their tortured lives, there’s some romance in between as well.In fact, some of the five have dated one another, along with Annalise’s two friends and employees, Bonnie and Frank.Which are the best pairings and which are the worst? Here’s a look. (Note: some spoilers ahead).
Wes and Laurel: Perfect Together
Wes and Laurel were a surprise coupling who no one saw coming, but they were totally sweet together. Sadly, Wes reached an untimely end and was supposedly killed in a fire. Or was he? The mid-season finale raises questions abouthisactualdeath.
In any case, Laurel was pregnant with his baby and went through with the birth, deciding to raise him on her own. With Laurel now in full mommy mode, seeing Wes come back to life, so to speak, would make them the perfect nuclear family. Murder, cover-ups, and gang ties aside.
Michaela and Gabriel: Makes No Sense
Michaela seems like she still hasn’t quite found herself, which makes it difficult for her to be in a relationship with, well, anyone. But Gabriel is by far the worst choice. While it might be tough to resist his chiseled facial features and well-defined six-pack, he’s just trouble.
We still don’t really know his agenda and Michaela seems more suspicious of him than she is into him. It also seems like she was using him because of her fear of not being in a relationship. Meanwhile, you can’t help but wonder if he really liked Michaela or was just using her to get closer to Annalise.
Connor and Oliver: Perfect Together
Connor and Oliver are both troubled men, but they are perfectly troubled together.They know what one another needs at any given moment, and Connor is always willing to sacrifice anything for his husband, and Oliver would do the same.
Connor seems to help center Oliver while Oliver wakes Connor up from the feelings of guilt that overtake him when he looks back at everything they’ve done. We can’t imagine one man without the other because they balance each other out.

Annalise and Nate: Makes No Sense
We first learned of Annalise’s affair with Nate while she was still married to Sam. He, meanwhile was having his own affairs anyway, so we could let pass the illicit part of the relationship.
However, Annalise always seems to be using Nate, and Nate seems so insecure that he’d jump off a bridge if she asked him to. While he tries to come across as the one in control, he’s anything but and Annalise needs a stronger man than that to keep up with her emotionally.
Michaela and Asher: Perfect Together
Weirdly, Michaela and Asher were somehow perfect together. Another completely odd couple, Michaela was the uppity, well-dressed girl desperate to shed her low-class upbringing while Asher was the rich young man who still acted like a frat boy despite his age. He was exactly the opposite of what she was used to dating.
But she seemed to be able to tame Asher while Asher seemed to truly love Michaela. In fact, they only broke up when she made the terrible decision to cheat on him. But of the many relationships on the series, this is one we could have seen lasting.
Annalise and Sam: Makes No Sense
Annalise and Sam might have been deeply in love at one point in time, but from the get-go, their relationship was doomed. Sam was Annalise’s therapist, and he was married with a young son. Yet they fell for one another and began having an affair. This was wrong on both a personal and a professional level.
Then, after their baby died in the womb following Annalise’s tragic car accident, Sam tried to go back to his ex. He clearly realized he had made a mistake and wasn’t invested in the relationship. Was he ever? Sam seemed allergic to commitment, so he was never the right choice for Annalise.

Frank and Bonnie: Perfect Together
Frank and Bonnie are long-time friends working together for Annalise, Bonnie on the legal side and Frank as the intimidating muscle with a loose interpretation of the law. They had gotten together at one point early on but were clearly just platonic friends.
Why? Frank realizes later that he has always been in love with Bonnie. And she might very well be in love with him, too, simply afraid to lose what they have if they pursue something romantic. But no one understands them like each other, and they know one another’s deepest, darkest secrets making them a perfect pairing that could trust each other to the end.
Frank and Laurel: Makes No Sense
Frank seemed infatuated with Laurel while Laurel seemed to only pursue Frank because she was bored, using him for sexual pleasure then tossing him aside when she found something better. She didn’t trust him but found she could use him for different things and took advantage of him.
Frank appeared to have real feelings for Laurel, even stepping up to help her care for her child once he was born. But the fact that those feelings were never reciprocated means that this relationship just made no sense. It was far too one-sided.
Bonnie and D.A. Ronald Miller: Perfect Together
In the latest season, we went back and forth over whether D.A Ronald Miller was a good guy or a bad guy. Bonnie was convinced he was a bad guy, even though he was totally sweet to her and swore he was innocent of what he was being accused. He proved himself worthy of her love, even sticking around when she told him the terrible truth about her past.
He was an honest, good guy who ended up being blamed for something he didn’t do. Had Bonnie actually given him the benefit of the doubt, he might have finally made her happy.
Asher and Bonnie: Makes No Sense
At one point, Asher and Bonnie were secretly dating which seemed totally weird. Bonnie was sort of like Asher’s boss at the time, serving as Annalise’s number-two. And she seemed to be using him for entertainment more than anything else.
Meanwhile, Asher calling her “Bon-Bon” just seemed totally weird. The pairing didn’t make any sense which is probably why Bonnie finally ended it. Bonnie is constantly moody and Asher is always over-compensating by being loud and obnoxious. They’re just too far on either side of the spectrum to make a viable couple.
