Red Dead Redemption 2's Witch House Explained (2024)

Highlights

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 is known for its supernatural Easter eggs, and the Witch House is one of its best secrets, adding an eerie and mysterious tone to the game.
  • Players can find the Witch House by exploring the furthest left side of the game's map, where they will encounter an old woman warning them to stay away. After a confrontation, players can explore the normal-looking shack and find a torn treasure map.
  • To find the witch's actual abode, players need to venture further east and north of the Grizzlies. They will discover a makeshift hut filled with supernatural objects like candles, animal bones, and a cauldron with a "Mysterious Liquid" that restores all of their cores if consumed. The connection between the two locations is unclear, adding to the mystery.

A grounded and gritty action-adventure game set in a historical time period, fans wouldn't automatically assume that Red Dead Redemption 2 had any supernatural Easter eggs, but they'd be wrong. Any long-time Rockstar Games fans know that the developer loves dropping all sorts of out-of-left-field secrets in its open-world games, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is certainly no exception.

From alien spaceships appearing in the skies of GTA 5's Los Santos to constant teases of Bigfoot in just about all of its games, Rockstar is notorious for putting an absurd number of secrets in its games, and Red Dead Redemption 2 has some of the studio's all-time best. But with a more grounded and realistic setting, Red Dead Redemption 2's Easter eggs and secrets get given a more eerie tone, and its hidden Witch House is certainly one of the game's more mysterious and spooky locations.

Red Dead Redemption 2's Witch House Explained (1)

Red Dead Redemption 2's Witch House is actually a mystery in two parts. The first part revolves around the supposed witch herself. If players navigate their way to the furthest left side of Red Dead Redemption 2's map, just north of the Little Creek River, they should be able to find a small wooden shack hugging the tree line. Upon the player's approach up to the house, they'll be met with an old woman warning them to stay away, or she'll kill them. If the player continues pressing forward, the woman will attempt to stay true to her word, releasing two rabid dogs on the player and pulling a rifle on them.

After killing or subduing the woman, Arthur Morgan will write about the encounter in his journal, claiming the woman to be a witch. Players are then free to explore the shack and will find that it's actually relatively normal inside, with nothing out of the ordinary aside from half a torn treasure map. To find the witch's actual abode, players will need to venture further East, and just North of the Grizzlies. When looking at the in-game map, the player can spot a small building marked out just above the letter "N" of the word Ambarino. Traveling to that spot will present players with a mysterious makeshift hut, containing some occult items.

Built from bundles of sticks tied together, this makeshift Witch's House is filled with various supernatural and spooky objects. Candles litter the ground, while animal bones are strapped to the waist-high walls. A wooden table sits on the left side of the witch's abode, with a slew of mysterious and presumably magical books sitting on top of it, along with various vials and containers. Then, right at the end of the witch's hut is a big cauldron, filled with "Mysterious Liquid." If the player chooses to drink the liquid, they'll pass out and wake up somewhere in the surrounding area, with all of their cores having been restored.

The Witch's House is one of Red Dead Redemption 2's more obscure mysteries. While there are plenty of supernatural Easter eggs in Red Dead 2, with the Saint Denis Vampire being the most iconic, these are often given a bit more explanation via environmental clues or hidden newspaper reports. But when it comes to the Witch's House, Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't really explain anything. It's not even clear if the Witch located above Little Creek River is connected to this hut and cauldron at all, though that doesn't make the Easter egg any less entertaining.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
