Adopt Buster on Petfinder (2024)

Hi, Are you my new best friend?

My name is Buster ! I am available for meet and greets with approved adopters !

Here are some notes from my foster mom that she thought is VERY important to share with anyone who is interested in adopting me.

I came to Canada with some resource-guarding issues. Specifically, my kibble/food. I did have some biting incidents, however, they were both related to food. We suspected that I have a leaky gut (meaning inflammation is preventing me from absorbing food properly) so foster mom made me this tea stuff (slippery elm) that she puts on my food and it has made the world of a difference.

It takes some time for me to build trust but once I do, I am all yours. I would do best in a household with no small kids and no male dogs. If you have a partner, you’ll need to balance affection with me ? (my foster mom is a solo parent so I only have to compete with other dogs).

We have been doing some positive muzzle training so that I don’t associate muzzles with incidents that humans deem as bad. Right now, foster mom gets me to put my face in the muzzle and puts it on me and gives me lots of belly rubs. I love belly rubs!

Remember, when I visit a vet, go to a groomer or if I ever got out and animal control found me, they’ll muzzle me. This training is to keep ME safe. I know muzzles can look scary but until I understand what is required and we have a solid bond, it is best for me to be muzzled when you’re unsure. P.s. at foster moms house, I only muzzle for training purposes so I can get to that level with you too!

She has ecollar trained me (nope, not a shock collar). It’s like a tens machine for a human (she has a background in human sciences and psychology). She says that it would be best that we continue with the ecollar and she is willing to help you understand how to use it or she can provide you with the information for a professional trainer that she has used with her service dog in the past who offers online course for dog training/ecollar training.

My foster mom helps the rescue with training or issues that other fosters are having so she likes working with dogs!

We do have a bit of a special feeding routine – I can't be given kibble in a bowl and fed. Well I am sure I could be over time if you want to work with me on that. Currently, foster mom puts a handful of kibble on a cookie sheet at a time after I come, sit, stay and she releases me. Or we go outside while I am on leash and she throws handfuls of kibble on the pave and we make it into a bit of a game. (foster mom can take videos of this stuff so you know how to do it). This is because we are reconditioning! Since I spent half of my life in a shelter, I ate in a kennel with a bowl that goes up past my snout and I learned some resource guarding. So we changed the way I am fed and we don’t have any issues.

Foster mom was told that I couldn’t be kenneled. Well, I am happy to let you know that I will now kennel for a treat and I spent 3 ish hours at a time in the kennel during foster moms work day. I don’t cry or anything. Overtime, I might be able to do it without a treat. Who knows!

I would love to have a big yard to run or have an active parent(s) who take me on walks. That ecollar thing mom mentioned, it let’s me off leash so I loveeee walking off-leash and sniffing things. I tend to stay close to you though, even without any sort of recall.

I am a snuggle bug who loves laying in bed or cuddling on the couch. I would love to sleep with you in bed but will also happily sleep on a couch or something at night. My preference is not to sleep in a kennel.

That’s all I can think of sharing for now but if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask the rescue team or my foster ma, she will gladly answer them for you!
